We have focused on Rock Island’s West End in this issue, with timelines, maps, and history. The maps are especially interesting, considering they were done by hand in the late 1800s and early 1900s and contain so much information. We are used to these being computer generated now so these are amazing documents!
Of special importance, please see announcement of the upcoming Illinois Department of Transportation’s public meetings. Iowa and Illinois are considering building a new bridge connecting the two states. Not only is the historic and iconic Centennial Bridge threatened with destruction, but the vital link between downtown Rock Island and Davenport could be severed. Please be aware of this ongoing issue.
