RIPS Newsletter, August 2023

August will be a busy month for those interested in preservation, with two major events on the weekend of August 19-20. This month’s RIPS newsletter has the times, locations, and details.

Get your reservation for an in-depth tour of the First Lutheran Parish House. This former 1907 Prairie-style residence, now Parish House, is tucked back on the bluff property so is hard to see from the streets but remains a hidden gem of Rock Island architecture.

Include “Epitaph Walk – a Living Jewish History” walking tour at the historic Hebrew Cemetery, 2715 30th Street, Rock Island in your Sunday afternoon plans.

And if you want to start your weekend with a bit of adaptive reuse of a historic building, get to the new Carriage Haus Bar in the Hauberg Carriage Houseon Friday afternoons. And be sure to bring your pup! This is a weekly event so keep it in mind all summer long.

Friends of Long View Park are reenergized to improve the many historic features at the park. Take a look, take a trip down memory lane through our Postcards from Home, and consider how you can help.

Feel free to pass on the newsletter to anyone you think would be interested in any of the information and events.
